Email open rates are declining each year. According to a study conducted by digital marketing software company Silverpop in 2012 the average open rate was 20.1%. That’s down from 22.2% in 2009. People are facing a barrage of email and they are only opening those emails, where they can’t resist reading the content.

Many corporations are made to believe that internet marketing is an expensive affair whiles basically its not. To me, internet marketing is the easiest form of marketing. I think the place where many companies fail in this regard is by trusting the numbers in most websites. These websites charge them thousands of dollars to advertise in their websites. If you are a company spending such amounts in advertisements, my advice for you is to stop.

So what is it exactly are you going to offer your audience/customers? Once you have decided on the product or type of service to market, you will need a website. This is where you will need to decide if it’s something you can do yourself or outsource.

Build your reputation as someone who is genuinely out for the best interest of their customers. Don’t be the sleazy car salesman who’s just trying to make a sale by telling the customer, “I’m not sure if I can make you the same deal tomorrow if you don’t buy now” or “this is the last one I got” when he has a dozen more just like it in the back lot.

Lets say you write an article, like what I am doing right here. I want to gain traffic through the keyword “What is duskin anthony.” The more people read it, the more people “like” it, the more people give it a +1 and the longer people stay on this page the higher my page rank will be. The higher my page rank will be the more traffic it will generate. It’s a snowball effect. So if you really care about something and would like others to care about it as well make sure to share on Facebook or Twitter or the Google social thing(its like Google buzz but now it has circles).

I have found that many of the issues involved with starting your business can be resolved by hiring a mentor or coach. Why not learn from someone who has been there, done that.

One of the great things about working with outside agencies is the fact that you can pick up new knowledge along the way. It’s always a good idea to take an interest in the details and read around your project to you can challenge your agency’s ideas to make sure you get the best outcome for your budget.

Yes, this is one way to speak directly with your clients. Just makes sure that you are not harassing them with it. There is nothing that will make clients turn away from your business faster than sending them tons and tons of emails. If you do this, your customers will mark your email address as ‘junk’ and never even glance at it. Also, make sure that they have the option of opting out of your email newsletters. If you are sending them updates on your company that they don’t want, you will probably never hear from them again.
