Author’s program note. It has long been my contention and pet belief that we denizens of Spaceship Earth, for all the formal education we’ve had, know next to nothing not just about our particular planet and our very own solar system… we know little or nothing (but think quite differently) about the hundreds of things that we see constantly, use frequently and have known about since conception. We may know the names of these things, all these things, but what we know beyond that is superficial, cursory… and more often than not, wrong.

If you don’t like doing exercises at the gym, which can be pretty boring, try and find a sport you enjoy doing. Even walking in the evening is good. You can listen to your favorite music, or walk with your partner and spend some quality time together. Also, there are plenty of other sporting activities that are good for weight loss, such as swimming, cycling and running. hobbies is great because all you need is a decent pair of shoes. It’s generally considered the best way to lose weight.

When I was of a ripe enough age to get into video games, I was probably 6 years old and was playing Skate or Die on Nintedo’s first system. Needless to say, gaming has come a long was from quad-directional, A, B tapping that that system entailed. About ten years ago, I do remember spending some time with the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater video games. Although impressive, they always seemed largely unrealistic, which was a huge draw back for me. I grew up as a skateboarding fiend. If I was going to play a game that would emmulate my everything I lived for, I didn’t want to be able to ollie over cars with the tap of one button, or leave down 30 stairs without even a blink.

What to watch for: Look for riders to “take a flyer” with the risk that the race will end while they are away from the pack or that they can get themselves into the proper position from which to sprint, at the time the race nears its end. It’s anybody’s guess!

Get yourself moving by doing activities that you enjoy such as walking, gardening, cycling or dancing, but whatever it is, make sure that you have fun doing it. Anything that slightly raises your heart beat and makes you slightly out of breath is classed as exercise. Try to get at least 30 minutes exercise every day.

On one memorable day in the late 50’s after a storm had pulverized the power grid, we were, the entire town, literally left in the dark. Candles rightly stand tall in such inconveniencing moments as this. And so it was with us. We had, good Midwesteners that we were, a cache of candles, some new, some used (including a disgraced overly green candle my mother had banished from the dining table). With its slender elegance it looked forlorn and out of place with the more work-a-day candles. The entire family set about the business of rendering “Fiat lux” in candlepower. The final result was both practical and eye-catching. We were proud of our handiwork and condescending about the fact our neighbors were nowhere near as well prepared as we were.

There is a whole list of reasons why Columbia down-towners should visit Lexington. Besides the great coffee at Grand Computers, there are tons of food establishments. A family can get anything from Mexican to Chinese food, or from whole foods to Vietnamese. The magnetic draw of this part of the Columbia area is the food, the drinks, the parks, and a lot less traffic. The air feels a little lighter, the sun rays extend over the trees, and relaxation is within reach when you can drive out of the heart of the city for an escape. Don’t forget to bring the family and friends to enjoy this coffee house knockout.
